Volunteer Coaches with PGYSASeason 2012Thank you for considering volunteering to coach soccer in 2012! PGYSA runs close to 300 house and divisional teams each summer, and without coaches, assistant coaches, co-coaches and team leaders, none of it would be possible. We recognize that for the first-time coach, and even for the returning coach now coaching at an older age group, it can be a daunting prospect, but we have a number of support mechanisms in place to help everyone get the best out of coaching soccer. PGYSA believes that only by developing our coaches can we develop our players.
U3/4 Micro mini soccer: There are no formal coaches at the Micro Mini stage - instead, we warmly encourage parents to come out and act as Team Leaders for the boys and girls; get involved on the field, have some fun with the players, and help keep yourself fit! All balls and equipment are provided and kept at the fields, and PGYSA coaches and senior players will be available to help and guide Team Leaders.
Please contact the office on 250-564-5900 to find out more and volunteer as a Team Leader for 2012!

FAQs for prospective coaches: - I don't know enough about the game of soccer / I don't understand the offside rule / What is a good formation for my team to play?
- Answers to all these questions are available from the Grassroots coaching clinic, and from our Technical Team. It's also a good idea for each age level to get to know the other coaches, and share ideas with them.
- I don't have enough time / my schedule changes / I'm out of town a lot:
- Why not get together with another parent and co-coach? Co-coaching is an excellent way to share the coaching, and a different pair of eyes on a game or a training session can often provide different ways of doing things - double the coaches, double the fun!
- I coached last year, and my team lost every game!
- There are two things to remember here - House League play is fun play, designed to develop players; no scores are kept, and no emphasis is put on winning. Having said that, soccer is a competitive sport, and every player likes to win now and then! Our team of qualified coaches is always on hand to provide advice and tips, whether it's about strategies for defence, helping your goalkeepers with technique, advice on goalscoring, or just how to keep your players enthusiastic about the sport
- I don't have a child at this age level any more, but I really miss coaching:
- Please contact the office 250-564-5900 - coaches are always welcome, especially those with experience. All that's needed is a current Criminal Record Check, and bucketloads of enthusiasm!
U13 - U18 Divisional soccer: Coaches are needed at this level more than ever. This is where the years of coaching development pays off, as you get to guide your teams to league or cup glory! Be the next Alex Ferguson, Jose Mourinho or Pep Guardiola as you deliver tactical masterstrokes from the sidelines, and get the Gatorade shower at the end of the year!
